back in singapore.

it's been a week now, and i must say, morning classes are killing my social-ness. not to say i don't talk to anyone anymore or anything like any of that, but every now and then i would just zone out and not bother talking to people.

and then there's the population density thing. you just see too many faces. thank goodness i'm in singapore, if not i would be saying hi to strangers i thought were my friends..

but its fun to mix around my classmates again, i notice that there's a very good mix of humour. plenty of jokes flying around here and there. there's the super lame, smart, weird, random, and just plain retarded.

watching back some of our old videos, i had a good laugh. the underoath one, laughed till cried..

mm yeah, been through the first week. it's been pretty packed. many things happened, i don't think i want to list them down. but yea thank God i'm still alive. school life huzzzzzzaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh

i finally found this essay! =D

i wrote this last year during one of my english continuous writing exams. i vividly remember myself dancing and singing on my seat while writing this, while the poor guy next to me had his head buried in his hands cracking his head for a storyline plot.

sometimes factual essays are easier to write. xP alright here goes. hope its not too long.

Time. The only constant in life. Time leads to change. Yet time does not change in itself. It is consistent, always moving at the same rate, constant. Although Albert Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity may prove otherwise, the world we currently live in has been safely deduced and reduced. From time, scientists have determined the speed of sound. 330 metres per seconds. From time, the world has found the fastest sprinter on earth. Usain Bolt, 9.69 seconds. Using time and light, they measure the solar system using light years.

So, how did time come about? How did existence come about? Scientists believe in theories, including the Big Bang Theory. It claims that the universe formed when certain atoms reacted with each other and created a huge explosion, forming mass, earth and stars, then everything like gravity and time formed. Others believe in more supernatural causes, that God created everything. Christians believe in the first verse of the Bible, Genesis chapter 1 verse 1: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” The humanatory explanation to follow on with this would be “and from then on, time started”.

In the ancient world, history claims that the ancient Egyptians came up with calendar with 365 days for a year. Before them, the Mesopotamian race invented the sun dial, using the movement of the sun and shadows to tell the time. Galileo Galilee and Robert Hooke both gave a significant amount of contribution to the pendulum, which took over sun dials as time keepers. These contraptions were called pendulum clocks, filled with minute cogs and wheels and screws fitted in to absolute precision. Then, the technology era swept by, and we find ourselves surrounded with millions of varieties of clocks, like Rolex, Tagheur, Lofor, and many more, not including digital clocks also. All this, is what the human mind has conjured to simplify time.

And then, there is the other side of time. Time is also relative. Some people will take a couple of months to finish a project, while others will only need a week. People will think they are getting old when they approach their 30’s, while 70-year olds will think they are still young and bubbly. Time is also uncertain, quoting average 7-year old toddlers: “Mom, how long is this going to take?” and the mother would always reply “As long as it takes for you to finish your vegetables”.

People also use time as hyperboles, as exaggerations, when they are trying to make a statement. In romantic love affairs, people would say: “I love you forever, darling.” when they barely even make up a speck of sand in the world’s sand clock. Others would say: “I’ll be back in a sec(second)” when they only come back in five minutes. Half an hour in detention would last longer for you than half an hour in Disneyland for me. One will always wonder how far away a friend actually is, when the cackling voice on the phone filled with interference says: “I’m on the way there, just give me five minutes to reach.”

Time can also be used as a natural remedy, for physical or emotional wounds. A bruised knee will swell up, clot, turn blue-black, and recover in half a week. Someone who just broke off from a relationship is capable of feeling better again, given some time for the person to ‘heal their inner wounds’. Time can also eliminate unwanted unreciprocated emotions.

But for me, the best thing about time, is that it is the essence to rhythm, which is the backbone for music. From time, foot-tapping beats and sounds are orchestrated. Four simple beats in a bar, given the correct time signature, can lead to a million different types of songs. Rhythm can be found all around us, even around me in the exam hall. From the consistent wind sounds created by the revolving ceiling fan above me, to the accented shuffling of papers, feet, and stationery around me. All these sounds around me are fitted into the universal time signature, which can be a potent musical masterpiece to some, music to my ears, or downright noise to others.

Whatever it may seem, time remains a mystery, an enigma. No matter how much scientists come up with many explanations, there is yet a universe around us yet to be discovered, from black holes to heart pulse, all related to time. All we can do, the normal citizen among the human rat race, is to learn to live with this supernatural phenomenon.

Just like I have, with just enough time to finish my essay.

So exams ended on the 2nd of September. Excited much, classmates wanted to watch Final Destination 4 in 3D. Ended up in fail though. Some people were underage, and apparently Singapore are really strict on the age thing. (I found out when we finally watched it, they hardly censored any of the gore @_@)

So in the end we didn't get to watch it, ended up watching The Proposal. Which was pretty nice, I kinda enjoyed it. Shue Ze kept predicting what was gonna happen next -.-

After that headed off to the Singapore Flyer. Big big Ferris Wheel.

So I've been to the tallest point in Singapore.

Nothing impressive though, Mt. Kinabalu is like one of the tallest point in South East Asia? So I had some fun. =] The guy on the right is Yong Ming, from Singapore. He was absolutely petrified when we first got on. xD

3rd September.
So the next day was house moving day, me and my roommate (his name is Justin Chen too) had some help, we moved in to a new unit, sharing with 6 other classmates/coursemates. Yes, you may be thinking 8 people is quite a huge number. But no worries, it should be alright. The awesome thing is it's like. RIGHT NEXT to school. I can wake up 15 minutes before class. =D

4th September.
Everyone had their own thing to do in the morning. In the afternoon a few of us went out shopping.. and stuff. Camera, Clothes, PSP, Guitar. Our entire group spent like, 1600+ SGDollars? Quite a big amount. I only bought the guitar, it's a Korean brand (Swing). I don't have any pictures of her. She sounds like heaven. <3 Sadly I had to abandon Kayla in Singapore. ='(

Then there was the midnight Final Destination 4 show. My goodness. I was thinking I could cope with the show, even though I had close to no exposure to these type of shows. But my goodness, uncensored, uncut bloody scenes of gore was quite too much for me. I lasted only 30 minutes, then walked out of the theatre. (Somebody say epic phail lol...) Meh, but it was good exposure. Maybe next time I'll last longer next time and not bail out on my friends.. xD

So after the show everyone came over to the new place. Had some McD delivered and chatted till the sun rose. =O It was good to get to know some of my classmates a little better.

5th September.
Sneaked 30 minutes of sleep before being woken up. We headed to the Singapore Zoo. It was tiring, we went in at 9am and only went out at 6pm. With practically no sleep at all.

But looking at the photos, I'll let you judge if we had fun or not. =]

6th September.
With slightly better sleep, we initally wanted to head to Pulau Ubin and do some cycling. But our 'tour guide' overslept. So... we ended up doing what most Singaporeans would do on a Sunday.

Headed off to the shopping malls, Orchard Road. and basically just goofed off.

HMV is a music shop there in Singapore. Like a total sakai, I tested out the listening stations. (I was listening to Incubus - Drive)

Then there was this Formula 1 exhibit sorta thing.

7th and 8th September
Rest. Absolute contrast compared to the previous 2 days, stayed at home and sat in front of the computer all day. Well not all day, I'm not that sad. Cleaned up the house a bit, and finally managed to solve the Rubik's cube under 30 seconds! (Okay, that's sad.) Thanks to all my housemates for abandoning me and going back to Malaysia earlier. <3

9th September
Took a taxi to the airport in the morning. And.. yeah.

So yeah. I'm back in KK now. 5 weeks woot woot. I miss my classmates alot yes. Singapore is a nice place to be, everything is so convenient there, it has so much more than what KK doesn't. KK definitely needs improving, but that's what makes it home, and home is where the heart is. =]

I've realised that I overlooked alot of things here back home. Being the only Sabahan here, what more the only one from East Malaysia, I've had countless people asking me "What's so special about Sabah?" and I often encounter problems, obstacles in explaining why KK is so freaking awesome. It usually ends after "Islands and Mountains."

What might have probably changed about me is that I speak Chinese a bit more, and my English kung-fu has probably dropped a fair bit. It's not easy to communicate when like 80% are from Chinese-speaking backgrounds, but I'm still managing so far.

One last note, and probably the most serious note. Being back home, I'm trying to rediscover my roots. Trying to realize why I behave the way I behave. Snapping out of the "Study-Getpaid-Holiday" mentality, it's time to rediscover myself. What has made me what I am today? What values did the people around me inject into me which I have held on until today?

Okay I'm done. This took almost an hour. Not bad. Once again, please do drop a comment if you read the whole thing. or most of it. or some of it. or you skipped the whole thing and just wanted to drop a comment. or--you get the point.
